María Falcón

I’m Maria, my first childhood memories are with my siblings running around in the family vineyards and hiding behind the wine vats. My first summer jobs as a teenager were stripping the leaves, looking after the vines and then picking grapes.

I would be lying if I said that those first experiences were what made me fall in love with this job; at that time I would have prefered to be at the beach with my friends. Now, I know that it was the seed of what, a few years later, would become my great passion: grape-growing and making my wines.

I’m Cris, I worked in different wine regions and in other agricultural projects. In 2012, I decided to move to Galicia with my partner, changing my usual sea, beach, food and holidays destination, to begin a new personal and professional stage, to live and enjoy all year round. In Galicia, I discover a unique territory in many senses, especially its Atlantic varietal diversity, a place where I can enjoy winemaking and where the dream of making my own wines begin to come true.

With Anonimas Viticultoras, we both have made our common dream of making our own wines come true.

Anónimas Viticultoras History

We both met at a wine tasting in 2014, then Cris began to work at Maria’s family-run winery making a red wine with the Caiño grape variety, a highly appreciated native grape variety of which there are very few old plots. Cris was already working with Caiño grapes that, due to its unique Atlantic characteristics, conquered them from the very beginning.

We had a very good connection from the beginning and that collaboration quickly led us to start our project by betting on an innovative wine, an Atlantic rosé on its lees made from the Caiño red grape variety. Thus, in 2016 we produced the first vintage of the rosé and the red both made from the Caiño variety traditionally grown in the Salnes area. This red grape variety has unique characteristics due to its extraordinary acidity and its special aromas that provide the wines a remarkable and singular Atlantic

character. The Caiño red grapes come from Horta do Palomar, one small block of very old ungrafted vines (over 120 years old) in the municipality of Cambados.

In 2017, we continued with the production of an Albariño D.O. Rias Baixas wine made from 40-year-old vines trained on trellises on granitic soil located a short distance far away from the Arousa estuary. This is how the Os Dunares series was born, inspired by the landscape and characteristics of the Atlantic dunes ecosystem present in many parts of the Galician coastline.

In 2018, we began working on the recovery of several plots located in the southwest of the Ribeira Sacra wine region. We began the production of the red Mencia Catro e Cadela, the Anonimas Viticultoras wines line with the red Abelairas made from a 70- year-old Mencia and Garnacha vineyard in the municipality of Carballedo in D.O. Ribeira Sacra, and the white Pedramogueira made from a 35-year-old retrieved Albariño and Godello vineyard in Pedramogueira area in Vilagarcia de Arousa located just 400 metres from the sea.

Historia_3-Anonimas_Viticultura-v1

In 2021, after several previous attempts we began making wine in the D.O. Valdeorras with Godello grapes from various hillside vineyards aged between 20 and 60 years old. That same year, we presented the Albariño wine 3 Invernos de Os Dunares vintage 2018, released after three winters of being refined in stainless steel vats and partially aged in an amphorae.

In 2022, Os Dunares line is extended with a Mencia red varietal wine from the Carramachelo estate in Cambados.

Our project is very dynamic and, year after year, in every vintage we explore new ways of making wine and taking on new challenges that thrill us and provide us enthusiasm and passion.

What inspire us

WOMEN`S
ROLE

We want to highlight the anonymous women. We work with women, pay tribute to them and promote their visibility.

RARE INDIGENOUS GRAPE VARIETIES

We are committed to the Galician countryside, we seek to enhance the value of minority native varieties such as Caíño and Ratiño.

BRINGING WINE CULTURE CLOSER TO THE PUBLIC

The wine sector is very traditional and has a specific terminology, at Anonimas Viticultoras we try to bring wine closer to the public in a friendly and natural way.

CONSERVATION OF THE LANDSCAPE AND ITS ORIGIN

We seek to recover, maintain and enhance the value of the old vineyards in order to make wines with identity that are a true reflection of their place of origin.

CONTINUOUS EXPERIMENTATION

Anonimas Viticultoras is a dynamic and restless project with continuous innovation and experimentation. The aim is to enhance the characteristics of the varieties we work with, without losing their identity.
